Breast ptosis (sagging breasts) is a very common problem and represents the natural evolution of breasts over the years.

There are several factors which contribute to breast sagging such as: pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loos or gain, aging, the effect of breast implants, developmental deformities and genetic inheritance.

The main bearing structure which ‘holds’ the breasts against all these factors and against gravity is the human skin, and we know that its resistance is easily influenced by external factors.

When compared to the usual, the volume and inadequate position of the breast can lead to a negative body image and low self-esteem, disorders which may affect interpersonal relationships, sexual satisfaction and the quality of life for women.

The Mastopexy surgery, is the mammoplasty indicated with the purpose of suspending and repositioning the breasts. We do this by removing the excess of skin and the volume of the breast.

Mastopexy can be associated with the use of implants, or not, it will depend on the individual characteristics of each patient.

A breast with significant flaccidity and little content will certainly need an implant to reach a better shape and volume.

However, the firm breast may only need a skin removal and tissue repositioning, which can be enough to give it a more graceful shape.

The use of implants can be with the purpose of augmentation or just filling. A positive point of the prosthesis is that it leaves the breasts more projected and closer with a more defined lap.

Our philosophy says that skin removal with prosthesis placement requires some anatomical support, I mean, the skin we remove is no longer in good condition and the skin that remains is possibly not to be firm enough to support the implant alone.

This way, our preference to let your breasts closer and avoid your breast from sagging, is using some technical and surgical strategies such as:

Muscle Support Strap

Strap created with the pectoral muscle that holds de implant in the center and up.

Custom Griplane and dual plane

A tight space, enhance the medial contour of the breasts and prevent their lateralization.

Internal bra

Internal sutures and mammary sulcus fixation special barbed suture yarns that promotes a greater stability of the long-term results and prevent the breast from collapsing.

Benefits

  • Additional support.
  • Implant stability
  • Low pressure of the prosthesis on the skin, which theoretically results in a better healing and scar.

How is the recovery?

As this technique requires skin removal, the 24hr recovery can´t be done.

Patient are allowed to raise their arms until their shoulders level to let some muscles relaxation and reduce the pain.

  • Raise your arms higher, just after 2 to 3 weeks
  • Drive 2 to 3 weeks after.
  • Lift up to 15 kgs – 2 weeks later
  • Physical activities, lifting more than 15kgs and a non-surgical bra allowed only after a month.

The Inverted T Scar

The greatest fear of patients who undergo this surgery is the T scar.

while examining the breasts we will see how the breast is and predict how it might look.

A good indication for this surgery occurs when the shape and positioning of the breast will improve a lot to the point that it is worth earning the scar and that it will  be just a detail in a beautiful breast.

In the past, most of these surgeries would  open, as the prosthesis would pressed the skin, and it was much more difficult to heal due to the threads used.

The barbed sutures have a better tensile strength and the absorption is slower.

What can happen to the scar?

The scar right after the surgery has the appearance of a line and this is the surgeon’s job.

However, it is expected that the scar may get higher and change color after 30 to 40 days, and it may turn pink or red…the peak is from 2 to 3 months.

After that, it will change color, it gets lighter and thinner over the time. The process can take 6 to 18 months.

We follow a series of care during this period to provide the best scar possible!

And who is at risk of Hypertrophic Scarring?

We must be careful with people who heal dark or look bad and use preventive measures in these cases.

So, only in these specific people we apply Preventive Therapy of Hypertrophic Scar with indication of preventive botulinum toxin and Laser; These are scientifically proven therapies
